Overview

The Water Program helps protect citizens of Alameda County by providing technical assistance and consultation in addressing water quality questions and concerns. The Water Program provides water quality and quantity certifications when needed to ensure potability (e.g., when applying for building and/or land development permits utilizing well water as the water source). Upon request, staff can collect and procure water samples to determine the presence/absence of coliform and E. Coli bacteria in drinking water sources (please contact our office for current pricing).

The water program also reviews plans for the construction or expansion of systems with more than 1 but less than 15 service connections, and investigates suspected drinking water disease outbreaks. New or existing wells are generally specified as the source of domestic water where public water supplies are not available. The water program reviews proposed water sources and ensures that the quantity and quality of the water is satisfactory.
